Mental Breakdown

One of the greatest hurdles in self motivation and personal development is that it is a continual process that can seem like a lot to handle. But fear not, this path does not have to seem so cumbersome.

To be able to better manage the flow and magnitude of what is to come and be done we need to be able to mentally breakdown activities and life into smaller objectives. The breaking down of things into smaller tasks allows your mind to focus on each thing individually rather than one just abstract goal.

The idea of breaking down goals into smaller steps also makes success, progress, and developmental growth tangible.  On a fundamental level we as humans are fueled by the feeling of accomplishment, it drives/ motivates us to keep going on.

“… thinking small is the secret to big success.”

-Lewis Howes

One of the most beneficial factors in breaking things down into smaller steps is that things progress naturally.  If something changes along the journey then you can adapt your small tangible steps to reach the goal.  When problems arise when viewing things wholly it can seem overwhelming to solve whereas when things are broken down you can isolate the problem and the goal is still intact.

Understanding The Key to Motivation

Around the globe people struggle with the lack of ability to motivate themselves to do things they want to do.  Part of the reason you are here reading this blog is because you are in some capacity searching for a means to motivate yourself.

They all would be pretty upset if they knew how simple the answer towards self-motivation was.  Well that is at-least what Professor Ron Siegel of Harvard University believes.  His thoughts reflect the idea that it is a fundamentally simple human mental function in a piece by Psychology Today.

“We’re simply wired, I believe, to expect and perceive threatening – a.k.a. unpleasant – experiences rather than to fantasize about pleasurable ones. Maybe the perpetually cynical, pessimistic individual is simply accessing older evolutionary brain patterns. And maybe the optimistic, “can-do” person has learned to access a newer, more versatile set of brain resources.”

So in layman’s terms this means that the key to motivation is just adopting an optimistic mindset.  That rather than fretting the negative possibilities we should learn to enjoy the good things.  Having a more positive perspective lends to the ability of being able to successfully motivate yourself.

Pathway Towards Motivation

Self -motivation is the process or initiative to undertake or continue tasks, activities, and routines without the meddling of another party, as defined by Dictionary.com

It isn’t just a one stop shop to increase your motivation, rather it is a process that involves continual effort.  Here we are going to list and explain several tools that help us progress down the pathway towards self-motivation:

  • One of the most important and also most common tools that people employ to better motivate themselves is the setting of goals, or milestones to reach.  It encourages us to try accomplish these objectives, ergo, motivating us.
  • Remember back to past accomplishments and successes to fuel the pursuit of more.  You have to remind yourself why it is worth it to pursue and achieve more.
  •  The fear of failure is a huge hinderance towards motivation.  “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take,”-Wayne Gretzky, by Micheal Scott reminds us that without an attempt we can not achieve.  Don’t let the thought of failure prevent you from wanting to do something.  Be more positive.
  • Another tool towards self-motivation is the idea that you have to make each day count.  Rather then letting the mind stray throughout the day and accepting laziness, stay productive throughout your day to have contentious self-motivation.

These above mentioned tools can be utilized in everyday life to improve ones motivation to do more and achieve greater.
